9/24 City Council Recap

The Snellville City Council met on Monday night with three Rosebud-area zoning cases on the agenda:

Temple Johnson & Garmon Drive

The annexation, rezoning and development at Temple Johnson Road and Garmon Drive for 149 homes on 42.8 acres (3.5 units per acre) in an “R-HOP” (Residential - Housing for Older Persons) Community has been tabled until November 26. The delay is due to the fact that the annexation has been disputed by the county and the resolution process is ongoing.

Mediation between representatives of the county and the city failed to produce an agreement. The next step in the process is a review by a three-person panel, one member of which will be appointed by the county. It is possible that the county member could come from our community. Hwy 78 & Rosebud Shopping Center, Religious Campus

The annexations associated with a proposal to build a Publix-anchored shopping center and religious facility at Hwy. 78 and Rosebud Road received a “first reading.” (Annexations require two public hearings. The first is usually a formality; the main hearing on the annexations occur at the same time as the hearing on the rezonings.)

This case is on the Planning Commission agenda for Tuesday night, September 25, at 7:30 pm. Unless there is a delay, this case will go before the City Council for a public hearing and final resolution on October 22.

Rosebud & Brushy Fork, Daycare

This annexation and rezoning has been tabled until the January 28 City Council meeting to allow for the annexation dispute process to go forward.

~~ COMMUNITY MEETING?

With so many pending rezoning cases in the area and growth pressures expected to continue, it might be to our advantage to schedule a community “meet and greet.” Topics for discussion might include the pending rezonings; the basics of the annexation and rezoning process; and plans for expanding our sphere of influence.

Previous meetings have been held at the Monterrey’s Mexican restaurant in the Kroger shopping center, although a more private spot might be more suitable. If you have any ideas for a location, please contact me.
